Twilight Ruin of Ghana Library Waterlogged Books in in Ghana

Twilight Ruin of Ghana Library Waterlogged Books

by Alison Palmer

Steel-blue ambient light fills the open roof of an abandoned library in Ghana, illuminating rows of wooden shelves bowed by waterlogged books. The dry season has cleared the air, yet the volumes remain sodden, their spines swollen and pages fused into dark, heavy clumps. A broken window frame borders a stack of collapsed books, their peeling covers resting against the rough timber. Shadows stretch across cracked floor tiles where damp wood meets dry earth. At the edge of the frame, a dark stain spreads from a soaked book onto the ground below.
