Leaning Broadcast Tower in Cape Town Rain in through a courtyard reclaimed by grasses near Cape Town

Leaning Broadcast Tower in Cape Town Rain

by Dominic Bernard

Rain slicks the rusted iron ribs of a derelict broadcast tower, its massive antenna tilted sharply toward the overcast sky. Through a weathered stone archway framing the view, the structure stands isolated in a courtyard choked with tall, gray winter grasses. The last light of sunset bleeds a dull orange across the wet metal, highlighting patches of flaking paint and deep corrosion. Water drips steadily from the bent tip of the antenna, pooling in muddy depressions around the concrete base. The stone arch is stained dark with moisture, its rough texture against the smooth, glistening steel. One bolt on the lower lattice glints briefly before fading into the twilight shadows.
