Rusted Diving Boards in Urals Ruins in among collapsed cloisters in the Urals

Rusted Diving Boards in Urals Ruins

by Claire Huang

Orange low-angle light floods a collapsed cloister in the Urals, illuminating a weathered swimming pavilion standing amidst the debris. Two diving boards, their metal surfaces eaten by deep orange rust, jut out at precarious angles against the fading sky. The dry season leaves the surrounding grass brittle and brown, whipping violently in the wind that scatters dust across the broken concrete floor. Through a jagged archway formed by fallen stone pillars, the pavilion appears isolated yet defiant. Sunlight catches the rough texture of the corroded metal, highlighting the contrast between the vibrant glow of the setting sun and the gray decay of the structure. One shard of blue tile lies half-buried in the dirt near the base of the nearest board.
