Pine Needle Carpet Ruin Chapel Arch Boston in beneath a broken stone arch near Back Bay, Boston

Pine Needle Carpet Ruin Chapel Arch Boston

by Margot Melendez

Copper-toned light spills across a floor thick with dry pine needles inside a stone ruin beneath a broken archway. The arch frames the empty interior where wind sweeps through the open walls, disturbing the needle carpet in subtle ripples. Rough granite blocks form the crumbling threshold, their surfaces weathered by early spring elements. Pale green shoots push through the debris near the base of the masonry, against the deep brown needles. The light fades fast, casting long, soft shadows that stretch across the uneven ground. Dust motes hang suspended in the dying glow before the threshold, where a single fallen stone rests against the mossy floor edge.
