Pine Needle Carpet on Ruin Chapel Threshold

by Dominic Walton

Soft overcast light falls through low-hanging clouds, casting an even, pale glow across the crumbling stone threshold of a ruined chapel. The ground is entirely blanketed in a thick layer of brown pine needles, their dry texture against the rough, weathered gray of the ancient masonry. Thick green vines climb the corridor walls, weaving through broken arches and draping over the stone edge. Early spring moisture hangs in the air, visible as a slight sheen on the wet stones beneath the foliage. A fallen branch rests against the threshold, partially buried in the needle carpet, marking the slow advance of nature into the silent structure.
