Overgrown Abandoned Zoo Cages North Carolina Ruin

by Kristina Kane

Tropical bright light floods the late morning scene, striking rusted iron bars of open zoo cages that lean precariously against crumbling cloister walls. Thick vines of green ivy and woody vines snake through the metal grates, their leaves vibrant against the gray concrete. Fallen masonry blocks litter the ground, partially buried by patches of dormant winter grass and scattered brown oak leaves. The low angle emphasizes the towering height of the collapsed stone arches, framing the sky through jagged openings. Wind whips the long tendrils of a hanging vine across the foreground, blurring its motion against the static decay. One rusted hinge hangs crookedly from a broken gate door.
