Silhouetted Zoo Cages Under Stone Arch in Winter

Deep indigo twilight fills the space beneath a crumbling stone arch near Kahramanmaraş, casting the skeletal remains of an abandoned zoo into stark black silhouette. Iron bars of open cages stretch upward, their rusted forms jagged against the fading sky. Winter vines hang tightly against the stone masonry, their brittle stems and dead leaves creating a textured lattice over the gray surface. Damp air settles into the crevices of the broken masonry and the hollow spaces between the bars. The ground is a dark, uneven carpet of frost-dusted earth and fallen debris. One rusted hinge rests on the muddy floor, catching the faintest glimmer of the last light.
