Decaying Victorian Glasshouse Ruins at Dawn in inside a roofless nave near Cabimas

Decaying Victorian Glasshouse Ruins at Dawn

by Mildred Buck

Cold silver light floods the roofless nave of a crumbling Victorian glasshouse near Cabimas. Broken iron ribs frame a canopy of green palm fronds punching through the missing ceiling. Drifting dust particles glow in the shafts of early dawn, suspended above cracked stone floors scattered with fallen glass shards. The structure stands as a skeletal grid against the pale sky, its once-grand arches now open to the elements. Weathered masonry shows the turn of seasons in patches of moss and peeling paint. Leading lines of the remaining framework guide the gaze toward the vibrant greenery reclaiming the space, ending at a single palm leaf pressing against a jagged metal support.
