Overgrown Greenhouse Ruin in Nanchang Shed in inside a machine shed with seed bags stacked high near Nanchang

Overgrown Greenhouse Ruin in Nanchang Shed

by Lee Chen

Flat noon light falls through a shattered roof into a machine shed near Nanchang, illuminating a collapsed greenhouse frame. Thick fig vines twist across broken glass panes, their broad leaves pressing against the sharp, serrated edges of wild nettles climbing the rusted metal skeleton. Stacks of seed bags rise against the far wall, their woven surfaces worn by dry season dust. Lamplight pools in the deep corners of the shed, resting on the grey concrete floor. Tools for seasonal labor lie idle beneath the encroaching vegetation, while a frayed seed sack rests overturned near the base of a twisted vine stem.
