Rusting Whaling Station Silhouette in Vine Corridor

by Elsa Dunlap

Tropical bright light floods the early afternoon, turning the skeletal remains of a whaling station into a stark black silhouette. Flensing platforms twist with heavy rust, their metal surfaces pitted and flaking under the sun. Thick vines choke a narrow corridor, weaving through broken railings and draping over the industrial debris. Raindrops hang suspended in the air, catching the light like scattered diamonds during a brief shower. Green foliage presses close to the gray steel, marking the slow advance of nature over the abandoned structure. one drop of water slides down a jagged metal edge, tracing a path through the orange corrosion before vanishing into the shadow below.
