Silhouetted Flamingo at Singapore Tidal Inlet in beside a tidal inlet near Holland Village, Singapore

Silhouetted Flamingo at Singapore Tidal Inlet

by Blake English

Honeyed evening light turns a flamingo into a sharp black silhouette against the bright sky. The bird stands on one slender leg beside a muddy tidal inlet, its long neck curved in a patient, predatory stillness. Rain-slicked water reflects the fading glow, while dense green foliage frames the view from the left. Humid air hangs heavy in the monsoon season, visible as a slight haze softening the distant mangrove roots. The bird's beak points downward toward the dark, wet sediment. One droplet rests on the tip of the beak, catching the last light before falling into the water.
