Silhouetted Eagle on Dead Tree Over Glacial Stream
Flat noon light floods the scene, turning the African fish eagle into a stark black shape against the glare. The bird perches on the jagged, bleached branches of a dead tree that rises directly from a rushing glacial stream in Hebei. Water reflects a harsh white sheen, bouncing light up onto the eagle's feathers. Dry leaves skitter across the surface of the water, caught in sudden gusts that ripple the current. The branches appear brittle and pale, against the dark, solid form of the bird. At the base of the tree, the water churns white where it hits the submerged wood, creating a sharp line of foam against the dark silhouette.
