Fire Scarred Sequoia Trunk on Honduran Cliff in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Honduras

Fire Scarred Sequoia Trunk on Honduran Cliff

by Brenda Hines

Rough, reddish-brown bark of a massive sequoia trunk dominates the frame, rising vertically from the bottom edge. Deep, blackened fire scars carve jagged patterns into the weathered surface, against the fibrous texture of the unburned wood. Above the trunk, a sliver of pale blue sky meets the flat glare of a noon sun. Fine droplets of sea spray hang suspended in the air, catching the bright tropical light and creating a hazy sheen against the dark bark. The tree stands alone against a backdrop of gray, salt-sprayed rock formations that fade into the distance. One droplet clings to a rough fissure in the wood, reflecting the harsh overhead light. The composition isolates the ancient trunk, emphasizing its vertical scale against the empty cliff edge.
