Cedar of Lebanon on Panama Cliff Edge in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Panama

Cedar of Lebanon on Panama Cliff Edge

by Patrick Lowery

Soft, diffused light falls through low-hanging monsoon clouds, illuminating a solitary Cedar of Lebanon perched on a rugged cliff edge in Panama. The tree displays thick, layered horizontal branches that stretch outward, their bark rough and deeply furrowed against the damp air. Salt spray has settled on the lower needles, giving them a pale, frosted appearance where the wind hits hardest. The sky above is a uniform sheet of grey, while the ground beneath the roots is a mix of dark, wet soil and jagged rocks. One branch extends toward the left third of the view, its green needles sharp against the muted background. Water droplets rest on the tips of the lowest twigs, catching the faint light before sliding down to the stone.
