Cedar of Lebanon on Rainy Cliff Edge in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Rio Grande do Sul

Cedar of Lebanon on Rainy Cliff Edge

by Johnny Bridges

Wet, dark green needles cluster along thick, horizontal limbs of a cedar of Lebanon pressed against a salt-sprayed granite cliff. The early afternoon light diffuses through lingering rain clouds, turning the rough bark into a matte, charcoal texture. Autumn colors appear as scattered brown patches among the foliage and a carpet of fallen leaves on the rock face below. Water droplets rest on the branch tips, heavy and clear against the gray stone. The scene emphasizes the tree's weather-beaten resilience as its layered branches extend outward, anchoring itself firmly into the crevices of the coastal rock. One glistening drop slides slowly down a needle, catching the soft, ambient glow.
