Decaying Victorian Glasshouse Ruins Near Missoula

by Jeremiah Cuevas

First rays of pale sunrise pierce the cool, humid air, illuminating the skeletal iron framework of a shattered Victorian glasshouse. Palm fronds push through the missing roof, their green leaves contrasting against the grey stone chambers surrounding the structure. Wet surfaces glisten under the low light, reflecting the soft gold of dawn. Layers of depth reveal crumbling masonry receding into the misty distance, where late spring foliage begins to soften the sharp edges of the ruins. Condensation rests on the remaining glass panes, distorting the view of the overgrown interior. at the edge shows a single palm frond pressing against a jagged piece of broken mullion.
