Fig Roots Split Decaying Greenhouse Assela

by Pedro Huang

Pale, peeling plaster walls curve inward where the greenhouse roof collapsed, letting late morning light bounce softly across the damp floor. Thick fig roots erupt from the soil, splitting the concrete foundation and weaving through debris of broken glass and rusted metal frames. The floor glistens with muted reflections of the scattered light. Dust settles on the cracked earth near the center, where a jagged root trunk pushes upward. Its rough bark presses against the smooth, crumbling white surface of the wall it has pierced. A shard of green glass rests on a root at the edge of the frame.
