Decaying French Colonial Villa Ruins Sunset Nicaragua

by Tessa Murillo

Rotting louvered shutters hang from the darkened window frames of a crumbling French colonial villa, their paint peeled to reveal weathered gray wood beneath. The structure stands roofless, exposing interior stone chambers to the clear evening sky. Warm firelight glows from within the hollow rooms, casting deep orange hues against the rough masonry and illuminating vines that have crept up the crumbling walls. Ferns and small trees sprout from the floor of the chambers, their green fronds against the dusty red earth. Low angle perspective emphasizes the height of the remaining archways as the sun dips below the horizon. A final sliver of light catches the edge of a broken shutter, highlighting the texture of decaying timber against the encroaching jungle foliage.
