Coral Polyp Tentacles Feeding Night Reef Cebu in beside a volcanic reef overhang near Cebu

Coral Polyp Tentacles Feeding Night Reef Cebu

by Nikolai Calhoun

Silvery winter light falls through exceptionally clear water, illuminating the delicate feeding tentacles of a coral polyp against a dark volcanic reef overhang. The polyp extends slender, translucent appendages into the current, their fine textures visible in the stillness. Slow-moving surface ripples create a soft, undulating distortion across the upper frame, while the deep night surrounds the illuminated subject in a void of indigo and charcoal. The volcanic rock forms a rugged, shadowed backdrop, against the fragile, organic curves of the coral. One tentacle tip catches the light, revealing a gradient from pale white to deep violet at its extremity.
