Broadclub Cuttlefish Over Coral Garden at Twilight

Steel-blue ambient light fills the water beside a volcanic reef overhang near Cebu. A broadclub cuttlefish hovers motionless above a textured coral garden, its skin shifting through subtle ripples of ochre and pale gray. Suspended particles glitter in the water column, catching the dim light like scattered dust. Layers of depth recede into the distance, where darker silhouettes of rock fade into the gloom. The coral formations display rough, porous surfaces in muted browns and deep greens, against the smooth, fluid body of the cuttlefish. Fine sediment drifts slowly around the creature's mantle, settling gently on the uneven reef floor below. The edge of the overhang casts a soft shadow that blends into the deepening blue of the surrounding sea.
