Coral Polyp Tentacles Night Reef Zanzibar

by Giselle Aguirre

Vivid orange tentacles of a coral polyp unfurl from a dark reef crevice, illuminated by a sweeping beam of white light that cuts through the deep night water. Fine particles of plankton hang suspended in the current, creating a soft haze that blurs the background into indistinct shapes. The polyp's translucent tips catch the sudden glow against the surrounding blackness, revealing delicate textures on their surfaces. Shallow focus isolates the organism while the rest of the reef remains a shadowy void. A faint shadow of a nearby rock edge falls across the lower right corner, at the base of the floating subject in its underwater environment.
