Coral Fragments Secured on Underwater Frame in beneath a reef ledge in tropical shallows near Zanzibar

Coral Fragments Secured on Underwater Frame

by Willie McCormick

Sunlight falls through turquoise water, illuminating a diver's hands working beneath a reef ledge. The diver secures small coral fragments onto a metal frame anchored to the sandy bottom. Plankton haze softens the background, creating a milky blue distance where the reef wall fades. The metal frame glints with a faint green algae coating, against the vibrant orange and pink hues of the living coral pieces. Fine sand particles drift slowly around the structure, suspended in the still water. The diver's gloved fingers press a fragment into place, while bubbles rise from the regulator in a thin, vertical column. A shadow from the ledge above falls across the frame, darkening the lower left corner.
