Aardvark Emerging from Burrow at Dusk

Dramatic twilight clouds hang heavy above a wind-scoured ridge, casting a muted gray light over the landscape. An aardvark pushes its snout and coarse gray fur from a dark burrow entrance near the ground. The animal's long, curved ears twitch slightly as it pauses in patient stillness. Reflected light from a nearby body of water illuminates the damp earth and dry autumn grasses with a cool, silver sheen. The ground is textured with loose soil and scattered dead leaves, indicating the peak of fall. The creature's claws grip the earth as it surveys the horizon. A faint reflection of the animal's silhouette shimmers in a small puddle at the burrow's edge.
