Honey Badger Digging Near Tidal Inlet Nagpur

by Emmett Gibbs

First light touches the rim of a honey badger's coarse, silver-tipped fur while its body remains in deep shadow. The animal digs claws into dry, cracked earth beside a narrow tidal inlet. Fine sea spray hangs in the air, catching the faint morning glow and settling on the dusty ground. The badger's head is low, muscles tense as it claws at the soil. Its small, rounded ears are alert. The ground is a mix of pale dust and darker, moist patches where the tide recently receded. One claw gouges a deep line into the dry surface, kicking up a small cloud of grit that catches the light.
