Wind Carved Yardang Formation in Sinai Desert

by Debra Solis

Hard coastal glare illuminates a stark clay desert landscape where wind has sculpted elongated ridges into sharp, aerodynamic forms. The ground stretches flat and pale, broken only by the rising yardang structures that taper into the distance. Deep shadows carve beneath the overhanging ledges, showing the vertical striations etched by erosion. Fine dust hangs suspended in the air, blurring the horizon line where the earth meets a washed-out sky. The dry season leaves the terrain devoid of vegetation, exposing the raw, ochre and beige tones of the clay. A solitary ridge stands isolated in the foreground, its smooth surface showing the relentless direction of the prevailing wind against the hard midday sun.
