Oman Yardang Ridges in Dawn Clay Desert in across a floodplain after rain in Oman

Oman Yardang Ridges in Dawn Clay Desert

by Clark Brock

Cold silver dawn light washes over a vast expanse of wind-carved clay ridges in the Omani floodplain. Early spring moisture leaves the earth slick and dark, against the pale, dusty crests rising in sharp, parallel lines. The low angle emphasizes the towering scale of the eroded formations, which stretch endlessly toward a horizon blurred by rising heat haze. Puddles of standing water reflect the gray sky, breaking the monotony of the textured ground. Fine sand settles in the deep furrows between the ridges, creating a pattern of rhythmic shadows that define the landscape's geological history. A small stone rests near the foreground, at the base of the massive geological structures in immediate scale.
