Wind Carved Clay Ridges Abu Dhabi Desert
by Fatima Blair
Flat, bright noon light washes over a vast expanse of wind-sculpted clay ridges stretching across a floodplain near Abu Dhabi. The earth displays a palette of dusty ochre and pale beige, with deep, shadowed furrows separating the elongated, parallel ridges that rise gently from the ground. Recent rain has left the surfaces slightly darker and smoother in the troughs, against the dry, matte texture of the raised crests. A shimmering heat haze distorts the horizon line, blurring the boundary between the textured earth and the pale, washed-out sky. The landscape feels endless, with the rhythmic repetition of the ridges showing quiet, geological order under the intense, unyielding sun. A sharp, dark shadow falls immediately along the base of the nearest ridge, at the base of the formation against the flat terrain.
