Night Wind Carved Yardangs Cairo Floodplain in across a floodplain after rain near City of the Dead, Cairo

Night Wind Carved Yardangs Cairo Floodplain

by Felix Valenzuela

Sharp ridges of wind-sculpted clay stretch across the floodplain, their jagged edges defined by a thin rim of starlight against the pitch-black night. The midsummer darkness swallows the foreground in deep shadow, leaving only the upper contours of the yardang formations visible. Beyond the immediate ridges, layers of similar geological spires recede into the distance, showing vast, silent depth under a perfectly clear sky. The dry, cracked texture of the clay surface is barely perceptible where the light grazes the tops, against the absolute void below. The scene stands as a monument to erosion, with the final ridge fading into the darkness of the City of the Dead horizon.
