Leaning Tower in North Korean Hammam Ruin

by Florence Henderson

Early spring rain falls steadily over a roofless stone hammam structure in the North Korean mountains. A rusted broadcast tower leans heavily to one side, its metal antenna angling sharply against the gray sky. The stone walls, stripped of their roof, show weathered textures where water drips from rough masonry edges. Puddles gather on the uneven floor, reflecting the pale midday light filtering through the falling rain. Moss rests on the damp lower stones, hinting at the season's moisture. The leaning tower dominates the right third of the view, its corrosion against the wet, gray stone of the ancient bathhouse. Water streams down the metal lattice, merging with the rain-soaked earth below.
