Transparent Rock Church in Busan Shrine

by Chloe Huang

Early winter sunlight floods a Busan shrine lined with glowing lanterns, illuminating a rock-hewn Ethiopian church viewed from behind. The massive stone structure retains its deep earthy reds and browns, yet the entire building is completely transparent like solid glass. Through the clear stone walls, the interior wooden beams and stone floor remain visible without distortion. Bright midmorning light passes through the translucent masonry, casting sharp, dark shadows of the lanterns onto the ground. The contrast between the solid, opaque lanterns and the see-through church creates a striking visual boundary. One ray of light reflects off the smooth, invisible edge of the transparent roof.
