Banyan Roots on Ancient Stone Altar Bogota Ruin

by Leslie Tanner

Pale morning light pours through a high window, illuminating the rough texture of weathered sandstone blocks stacked into a crumbling altar. Thick, pale banyan roots snake down from the ceiling, their fibrous strands gripping deep into the carved grooves of the stone face. The roots display a network of ridges and knots against the smooth, eroded surface of the masonry. Dust motes float in the narrow beam of light that cuts across the floor. The dry season air has left the stone surfaces dusty and matte, absorbing the soft glow. A shadow from a hanging root falls sharply across a carved geometric pattern near the base, defining the depth of the erosion.
