Cool blue twilight light falls through high arched windows, casting deep shadows across the expansive prayer hall of a mosque in Addis Ababa. Rows of thick, cylindrical stone pillars stretch toward the rear, their rough surfaces catching the faint glow of oil lamps settled in the corners. The floor is covered in rows of woven prayer mats, their red and cream patterns muted by the dimming natural light. Rain streaks blur the distant windows, indicating the monsoon season outside. A low angle view emphasizes the height of the arches and the rhythmic repetition of the stone columns, showing vertical grandeur. at the edge is the warm, flickering reflection of a single lamp on the wet stone base of the nearest pillar.
