Sunken Ship Porthole Moray Eel Bali Midnight in along a coral wall with blue water beyond near Denpasar

Sunken Ship Porthole Moray Eel Bali Midnight

by Shawn Boyd

Deep shadow cloaks the rusted iron frame of a circular porthole embedded in a submerged shipwreck wall. Through the dark opening, a mottled brown and grey moray eel rests against the interior metal, its scales catching a faint rim of blue light from the open ocean beyond. The water is a heavy, inky blue, thick with suspended sediment particles that glitter like scattered stars in the beam of a distant light source. Coral encrusts the ship's exterior, blending into the surrounding reef wall near Denpasar. The eel remains motionless, its body pressed tight against the curved metal, creating a stark contrast between the organic texture of the fish and the corroded industrial decay of the vessel. Fine silt hangs in the water, suspended in the stillness of the midnight hour.
