Moray Eel Hiding in Blue Hole in along a coral wall with blue water beyond near Cairns

Moray Eel Hiding in Blue Hole

by Vicki Wright

Soft, diffused noon light falls through the water surface, creating a gentle wash of pale blue over the coral wall. A giant moray eel emerges from a dark blue hole, its mottled skin against the smooth rock. Tiny suspended particles glitter throughout the water column, catching the light like scattered dust. The water beyond the reef glows with a deep, luminous intensity. From a low angle, the eel's head rises against the brighter water, revealing intricate textures on its scales. The dark opening of the hole frames the creature, while the coral wall extends upward along the left side.
