Moray Eel in Blue Hole Dawn Light in beside a reef crevice under clear water near Stone Town

Moray Eel in Blue Hole Dawn Light

by Sam Witt

Cold silver dawn light falls through the water, illuminating a moray eel coiled within a reef crevice near Stone Town. The creature's spotted skin contrasts against the deep blue shadow of the hole, while broken surface ripples fracture the light into shifting patterns above. Suspended particles glitter throughout the water column, creating a dense layer of suspended dust that catches the pale morning glow. Layers of depth recede from the sharp texture of the eel's scales into the murky distance, where the water transitions from bright turquoise to indigo. One beam of light highlights the gill slit, ending the view in a sharp edge of shadow against the reef rock.
