Silvery Night Light Over Amazon Refectory Ruins in among collapsed cloisters in the Amazon

Silvery Night Light Over Amazon Refectory Ruins

by Craig McClain

Silvery winter light falls through heavy overcast skies to illuminate a refectory reclaimed by the Amazon. Thick stands of stinging nettles rise beneath weathered wooden tables, their jagged leaves glistening with recent rain. Broken stone arches create a frame within a frame, enclosing the silent dining space. Moss coats the crumbling masonry, and fallen timber lies scattered across the damp earth. The dense jungle surrounds the structure, with vines hanging from the remaining walls. A reflection of the pale sky shimmers on a puddle beneath a rotting table leg.
