Silhouette Bracket Fungus on Fallen Oak Gambia in in Gambia

Silhouette Bracket Fungus on Fallen Oak Gambia

by Bennett Melendez

Copper-toned light from the setting sun casts a dark silhouette of a thick bracket fungus clinging to a fallen oak log. The fungus displays a rough, layered texture with distinct ridges along its curved edge. Behind the log, layers of acacia trees and dry grass recede into the distance under a perfectly clear sky. The monsoon season leaves the ground covered in patches of green amidst the golden dust. Shadows stretch long across the earth, showing the weight of the fallen timber. The fungus hangs heavy against the fading light, its shape stark and solid against the bright horizon. A sharp line of dust rises from the base of the log where the bark meets the soil.
