Bracket Fungus on Fallen Oak in Minnesota Forest

Soft, overcast light falls through low-hanging clouds to illuminate a thick, shelf-like bracket fungus growing on the side of a fallen oak trunk. The wood surface displays deep, weathered gray fissures and patches of pale lichen. Surrounding the log, a dense carpet of green fern fronds unfurls across the forest floor, their delicate edges catching the diffuse glow. The muted palette of forest greens, grays, and earthy browns reflects the late summer stillness before sunrise. one drop of moisture rests on the tip of a nearby fern leaf, mirroring the damp texture of the fungus's crusty cap.
