Silhouetted Crates at Dawn in Gambia
Stacked wooden crates form a jagged silhouette against the pale, heavy monsoon sky of a Gambian loading dock. The scene exists in deep shadow, illuminated only by a sharp rim light that traces the edges of the crates and the nearby windbreak. A water trough rests to the side, its surface dark and still. The most striking feature defies physics: long, dark shadows stretch from the crates toward the bright horizon, pointing directly into the light source rather than away from it. This impossible geometry anchors the practical arrangement of livestock containers in a surreal morning haze. The texture of weathered wood and the wet sheen on the ground remain sharply visible despite the low light. A final, distinct shadow line cuts across the wet earth, leading toward the impossible light direction.
