Sea Snake Through Coral Near Cairns Reef

by Garrett McLean

Vivid turquoise water fills the frame, revealing a slender sea snake navigating the complex branches of branching coral. The reptile's scales shimmer with alternating bands of yellow and black, catching the bright tropical light filtering down from the surface. Sunlight fractures into dancing patterns across the rough, textured coral formations, which rise like stone trees from the dark volcanic reef overhang. The water is exceptionally clear, allowing every fine detail of the coral's porous surface and the snake's sinuous movement to stand out sharply. Tiny bubbles rest on the coral tips, while slow-moving ripples on the surface above create a soft, undulating light that shifts across the scene. A small patch of orange sponge rests in a shadowed crevice at the bottom right.
