Sea Smoke Over Salvador Thunderheads at Noon in over a horizon of stacked thunderheads near Salvador

Sea Smoke Over Salvador Thunderheads at Noon

by Amy Greer

Thick white vapor rises straight from the dark ocean surface where minus forty air meets the warmer water. Above, a wall of stacked thunderheads dominates the sky, their heavy gray bases pressing low against the flat glare of noon. Tropical light strikes the rough water texture, turning wave crests into sharp white foam while the mist below remains a soft, pale gray. Heavy rain clouds hang over the horizon near Salvador, their undersides deep and shadowed. The water ripples with restless energy, reflecting the storm clouds looming overhead. A distinct line of vapor separates the dark sea from the brooding sky.
