Anvil Cloud Lightning in Queensland Fog in through low marine fog in Queensland

Anvil Cloud Lightning in Queensland Fog

by Renata Turner

A towering anvil cloud dominates the midday sky, its flat, fibrous top glowing with internal flashes of lightning. Thick marine fog drifts across the lower frame, softening the horizon where the cloud meets the water. Reflected light from the wet surface creates a shimmering silver path beneath the dark storm mass. Heat haze distorts the air near the waterline, blurring the boundary between sea and sky. The diagonal tilt of the cloud formation cuts sharply across the frame, adding visual tension to the quiet scene. A sharp bolt of blue-white electricity illuminates the cloud's underside against the gray fog.
