Advection Fog Rolling Over Venice Ocean Horizon in over a horizon of stacked thunderheads near Dorsoduro, Venice

Advection Fog Rolling Over Venice Ocean Horizon

by Amina Allison

Thick white advection fog blankets the cold ocean surface, drifting horizontally toward the Dorsoduro district of Venice. Above this low-lying vapor, a line of stacked thunderheads rises in sharp relief against a perfectly clear late afternoon sky. The water below reflects the soft, diffused light, creating a muted gray-blue tone that contrasts with the bright white of the cloud base. The fog obscures the horizon line, merging the sea and the lower sky into a single soft mass. In the distance, the faint dark outlines of Venetian architecture pierce through the mist, at the base of the weather event in a specific urban coastal setting. The scene remains still, with the heavy clouds hanging motionless above the rolling vapor layer. A thin strip of clear blue sky remains visible at the very top edge of the frame.
