Hippo Yawning at Sunset in Mombasa Lake

Rich amber sunlight washes over the dark, wet skin of a massive hippopotamus emerging from the water near a dense wall of green reeds. The animal's mouth is stretched wide in a deep yawn, revealing pink gums and large, curved teeth against the fading light. Distant haze softens the horizon line where the lake meets the sky, creating a layer of atmospheric depth. The water ripples gently around the hippo's shoulders, reflecting the warm glow of the setting sun. Tall reeds sway slightly at the water's edge, their tips catching the last rays of daylight. The surface of the lake remains calm, broken only by the movement of the hippo's head as it turns slightly toward the shore. One reed stem bends under the weight of a water droplet at the very corner of the frame.
