Cold moonlight washes the massive concrete winch house in shades of steel gray, standing rigid against the predawn darkness. Mist and spray hang low over the water, softening the edges of the black mud flats where tall cattails rise in dense clusters. The structure looms with industrial weight, its angular forms contrasting against the organic, swaying reeds. Shadows stretch long across the wet ground, reflecting the pale, diffused light. A fine layer of moisture coats the rough concrete surface, catching the faint glow. The horizon remains indistinct, lost in the heavy atmospheric haze, while the vertical lines of the gate mechanism pierce the quiet, still air. one drop of water slides down the corner of a metal hatch.
