Silhouetted Dam Powerhouse Below Penstocks
by Cody Foster
Deep indigo twilight washes the sky where low-hanging clouds drift heavy above a rugged mountain valley. The massive concrete facade of the dam powerhouse stands as a stark black silhouette against the fading blue light. Above the structure, thick penstock lines stack vertically, their cylindrical forms creating a rhythmic pattern that pulls attention upward. Below, the spillway chute releases a sheet of white spray that catches the last light, appearing as a misty veil against the darkened rock. Late summer heat lingers in the stillness of the air, visible only in the way the water vapor hangs suspended. Converging lines of the dam's architecture guide the gaze toward a distant vanishing point where the mountains meet the sky. The texture of the wet concrete is smooth and unyielding, against the chaotic spray rising from the chute.
