Midsummer sunlight falls through overhanging leaves, casting shifting patches of brightness across the weathered concrete walls of a sluice gate winch house. The structure stands rigid beside a channel of thick, black mud where tall cattails sway in a dense cluster. Metal transformers and thick cables hang from the building's roof, their surfaces gleaming with heat haze that distorts the air above them. The wide panoramic view shows the stark, civic-scale austerity of the industrial equipment against the organic growth of the wetland. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the mud, defining the heavy textures of rust and concrete. One cable sags slightly against the bright sky, its dark line cutting through the dappled light.
