Peccary Herd Crossing Trail at Sunrise

Early winter frost coats the dry grass blades along a narrow dirt trail in Luxembourg. Just after sunrise, the first rays of light strike the coarse, bristly fur of a peccary herd moving in tight formation. Their dark, muddy hooves press into the pale, frozen earth. The sky above is a sharp, cloudless blue, against the muted browns and grays of the animals' coats. Sunlight highlights the texture of their thick skin and the alert angle of their small, rounded ears. The group moves with deliberate, patient stillness, heads low, scanning the path ahead. One peccary pauses, its shadow stretching long across the frosty ground.
