Camel Caravan Crosses Black Lava Field at Predawn

by Tyler Nichols

Pale moonlight washes over a vast expanse of jagged black lava rock, where a line of camels moves toward a distant vanishing point. The animals carry heavy loads wrapped in fabric, their coats speckled with white patches of morning frost or dried mud. A thin, cold haze rests on the ground, softening the sharp edges of the volcanic stone. The sky above is a deep, featureless indigo, devoid of clouds. Converging lines of the rocky terrain guide the eye along the path the caravan has carved. The lead camel pauses, its shadow stretching long and thin across the uneven surface. Frost crystals glitter on the dark fabric of the saddlebags, catching the faint silver light.
