Camel Caravan Crossing Marsh Causeway in Morocco in along a switchback approach in Morocco

Camel Caravan Crossing Marsh Causeway in Morocco

by Ryan Harrington

Mud rests on the rough, dark hide of a dromedary as it steps carefully along a narrow stone causeway cutting through a shallow marsh. The low angle emphasizes the animal's height against a sky washed pale by late afternoon heat haze. Swirling air distorts the distant switchback road where two other camels follow in a single file line. Cool season frost dusts the damp reeds lining the water's edge, against the warm ochre tones of the desert sand in the background. The animals' harnesses show signs of wear, their breath visible only as a faint shimmer in the dry, bright light. One hoof presses into the soft mud, leaving a deep, dark impression that slowly fills with water.
